How To Get Audio On Zoom

This article assumes you are already in a meeting, having called using the Zoom app for Android or iOS.

Before trying the troubleshooting steps below, please read How Do I Join or Test my Computer Audio/Device Audio in the Zoom Help Center. The help center provides explanation for connecting via Telephone and Internet Audio.

  • You need to join audio first in order to hear others and/or be heard.

Try these troubleshooting steps if you have microphone or speaker issues after joining a meeting on the Zoom mobile app.

I can't hear other participants

If you cannot hear other participants in a Zoom meeting, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Ensure your speaker is turned on. If you see the speaker icon in the top-left corner is turned off, tap it to turn on your speaker:

    • Note: You may need to tap the screen first in order to see the icon.
  2. Increase the volume on your mobile device using the volume buttons or notification panel. Even if the speaker is turned on in Zoom, your device's volume might be set to mute or vibrate only.
  3. Try using headphones if you have them.
  4. Restart your mobile device.
  5. Reinstall Zoom from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Other participants can't hear me

If others can't hear you in your Zoom meeting using the mobile app, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Ensure your microphone is not muted. If you see the muted Audio icon in the meeting controls, tap it to unmute yourself:
screenshot of the audio button in the Zoom mobile app, the button shows a crossed out microphone indicating mute is enabled
    • Note: You may need to tap the screen first in order to see the icon.
  2. If you are still muted, the host may have muted you upon entering the meeting. Ask to be unmuted by sending a chat message to the host.
  3. Ensure you have connected your mobile device's audio. If you see the following Audio icon in the meeting controls, tap it and select Call via Device Audio. If prompted, allow Zoom to access your microphone.

    • Note: You may need to tap the screen first in order to see the icon.
  4. Try using a headset with a microphone if possible.
